Maddie & Drew’s Hoboken Proposal

Pier A Hoboken Proposal

.

I was so honored to photograph this Pier A Hoboken proposal last  weekend. Maddie was surprised when Drew dropped to his knee at this beautiful rose installation on Pier A and said yes! Read all about the day and their story here!

How they met

“We met online when we were both living and working in North Carolina after college. Maddie in Charlotte, Drew in Winston-Salem (about 80 miles, 1 hr 20 minutes apart, even if Drew said it’s just 45 minutes when he drove to Charlotte for the first few dates). Drew asked Maddie out and we went out in Charlotte on 11/9/19. We’ve been dating since then, 22+ months coming up on 2 years. “
.
The dedication between them is so touching, long distance is no joke!
.

About their first date

Drew: “ It was at Superica – a Mexican restaurant in Charlotte’s South End section. The most memorable part of the night was when we sat down, the first words from our server were “So, are we doing tequila shots tonight?” We did not. Just shared guac, ate tacos and enchiladas and got to know each other some more. We wanted to see each other again so we set up another date for I think what ended up being two weeks later based on our schedules.”
.
Haha, too funny most likely a good thing no shots were involved! Food + good conversation is also my jam 🙂

What they love to do together

“Trying a new restaurant in the area each week – Hoboken, NYC and surrounding areas — Italian food is our favorite. Taking care of and walking Maddie’s (soon to be ours I guess!) dog George throughout Hoboken — he’s a 14 month old yellow lab with a ton of personality and energy. Traveling together — we’ve been to CA, TX, FL, NC, ME, MA and MD together in the past year or so.
Our favorite place to go is probably an Italian restaurant with wine (Maddie), pizza (Maddie), whiteclaw (Drew) and cannolis (Drew). We like our food!”
.
Italian is my go to comfort food, to be honest I have it once a week!

Why Maddie is so special to Drew

“Maddie is the most loving, caring and supportive person I’ve ever met outside of my parents. She is extremely motivated to succeed and very forward thinking. I’m not a futuristic planner by nature, more of a live for now type of mentality most of the time. She completes me and just gets me. We make a pretty good team.”
.
Awww! I love hearing this!
.

Why Drew choose this place to propose

“Hoboken is a special place for us. We moved in together here in January 2021, and have loved it here, especially after the winter months. When we were looking for apartments in December 2020, I introduced Maddie to the touristy Carlo’s Bakery and we ended up eating our sweets on Pier A. I’m not sure we’ve been back since then — one of our first Hoboken moments together will be similar to the proposal in location. Pier A in general has beautiful backdrops with multiple looks at NYC, the historic Hoboken train station Erie Lackawanna sign and the lawn.”
.
We had to take pictures in front of the Erie Lackawanna sign, see the beautiful photos below!

That moment Drew knew Maddie was special

“It was a combination of her willingness to move to Hoboken to eliminate long distance during middle of COVID and her always supportive attitude in anything I do, especially in my passion for my work in sports broadcasting, which doesn’t go by a normal 9-5 weekday schedule – just the opposite schedule most of the time in fact. ”

About the Proposal

Drew picked a beautiful spot with gorgeous water front views to propose. He even had his mom help make it extra special with placing flowers in a beautiful decoration for the spot he was going to propose. It was stunning! Drew was even extra prepared and wanted to make sure the day went perfect for Maddie. He ahead of time prepped a bag of supplies to make sure she would be ready for photos after the proposal!
.
I was so glad to get there early and scout out the location, despite being a weekend thankfully it wasn’t too crowded which was perfect! Drew was sneaky and let me know where he was before Maddie and him walked up the pier. See just a few of my favorites here:
