Miracle Hoboken Newborn Session
This is the story behind a miracle Hoboken newborn session that was super special!! Meet Calla Betty Reimer! She was born on Feb 19 at 7lbs and 15.9 oz at the Hackensack University Medical Center.
I absolutely love it when couples share about their journey to becoming parents. Dana and Anthony had been praying for this miracle baby for two and a half years. Read more about their story here:
Calla’s Parenthood Story
A step towards adoption…
“We had been trying to have a baby for two and a half years, and had seen a reproductive doctor with no answers. There was nothing wrong with either of us, we just could not get pregnant so we began the journey down the road to adoption.
We met with an adoption agency and were given a very intense questionnaire to fill out right before we went on vacation. On that trip we talked about all the things that go into adoption and prayed a lot about all the questions they asked. When we returned, our next step was to schedule a home visit from the agency so they could begin evaluating us.
An unexpected turn of events…
For some reason that day Anthony asked me if I would take a pregnancy test. He had never asked me to do that before, but was feeling sad about our struggle so I gave in. When it was time to check the test I said, “Okay, ready for another ‘not pregnant’ test?” I looked at the stick and it said pregnant. We both jumped back from the test in disbelief.
So in true husband fashion, Anthony went to the store and bought $50 more of different pregnancy tests. I took them all and they all said the same thing. When the final test flashed “pregnant” I just started to cry in disbelief. We could not believe it! Suddenly all the wrestling through the adoption paperwork questions made a lot more sense and carried a whole new meaning. Parenthood wasn’t something we might be able too, it was definitely happening!”
How sweet is that story?? It makes me tear each time with joy and these photos from this Hoboken newborn session are just proof of how perfect miracles can be! It’s truly amazing to see how God loves us even when we don’t expect it!! Calla Betty is a beautiful miracle baby girl.
How did you announce your pregnancy?
“We FaceTime’d Anthony’s parents to tell them we were sorry, but we couldn’t come out to their home in Colorado for Christmas because it was going to be difficult with the baby.”
I’m sure they were overjoyed!!
“My mom figured it out before I could tell her when we visited over the summer. I told my dad by sneaking it into the end of a prayer at lunch one day. ‘…God thank you for this meal, for time with family, and for Baby Reimer, arriving February 2019. Amen.’”
That was so sneaky. I’m sure Dana’s dad was beyond shocked!!
“We posted a picture of our dog Honor with a pair of toddler sneakers and the words “Guard Dog. Duty begins February 2019”.”
Yes! Of course, Honor had to be in the photos too! We managed to get a few of them together. Some of those are my favorite ones!
How did you pick out Calla’s name?
“Calla is my maternal great-grandma’s name. She was the mother of my grandma Alice, who was a huge influence on me and music. She would not have pursued music in the 40s as a single woman if her mom, Calla, hadn’t encouraged her and told her that she could. Betty is Anthony’s maternal grandmother’s name, who was the most welcoming host. She even made me a special chili the first time I visited because she knew I couldn’t handle the spice of her normal chili.”
I love hearing how my couple’s pick out their baby’s name! Calla Betty is simply perfect. If you didn’t know, Dana is a talented singer and worship leader. I can only imagine how important her great-mother Calla was to her mom who also encouraged Dana to pursue music as well!
About this miracle Hoboken newborn session
I knew it was going to be an amazing time when Dana told me about her idea for an earthy theme weeks in advance. It was her idea to add the vines and the basket plus those beautiful colors truly made Calla shine!
The miracle newborn session took place at Dana & Anthony’s home in Hoboken, NJ which was exquisitely decorated and full of perfect natural light. Of course, we had to start Calla with a calla lily headband. How precious is she??

Calla’s Baby Room
Dana’s Joanna Gaines interior decorating style made Calla’s room so perfect! There were so many small, perfect touches which made their beautiful Hoboken home the perfect place to shoot, plus the amazing natural light! Honestly I couldn’t get enough of the cute details. Some of my favorites though were of Honor the sweetest guard dog and Calla together!
These two vintage teddy bears were such special details from Dana’s own childhood!!
